Hockey Playoffs Are Here!
Tonight is finally the beginning of playoff hockey!
After a long and arduous season full of injuries, amazing streaks of good and bad play, and numerous last minute trades the real season is upon us.The story lines are already set. The always tumultuous Eastern Conference is setup for the usual big upsets as several of the top regular season teams limp into the playoffs with major injuries. Is New Jersey too old and creaky to withstand the playoff grind? Can the upstarts from Montreal capitalize on their late season success and make a strong run? Are these New York Islanders for real?
On the other hand, the Western Conference playoffs look as strong as ever. The President's Cup winning Red Wings face a surprisingly strong Calgary team in a classic battle of aged veterans versus upstart rookies. Colorado stumbled a bit late in the season, but with the surprise un-retiring of Patrick Roy last week and Forsberg's return they resume their favorite status in the West. Down in Dallas, the annual tilt against Edmonton features an unimpressive but steady Stars team against an up-and-down Oilers unit which has survived a season which included both the longest losing streak and longest winning streak in the league this season. And of course, Brett Hull continues his improbably MVP season as Phoenix looks to capitalize on The Blues injuries and end their playoff run early.
The Stanley Cup awaits a worthy champion... The NHL Playoffs are here!
